Impact Report: The State of Care Worker Wellbeing

What does it really take for care workers to thrive – not just get through another shift? Our impact report, published September 2026, brings together the stories, evidence and lessons from a year supporting care workers through burnout, isolation and displacement.

Here are three things we’ve learned about what people need to feel supported, find their confidence and continue doing the work our communities depend on:

1. You can’t care for others if no one cares for you.

Care work asks a great deal of people, emotionally and physically. Yet the wellbeing of care workers is often overlooked until they reach breaking point. Our experience shows that giving people space to pause, build resilience and feel supported can make a real difference. In 2025, our wellbeing programmes received a 4.58/5 rating, while our wider work reached more than 380 displaced care workers. Behind every number is a person who deserves to feel valued, supported and able to keep going.

3. Supporting care workers strengthens the whole care system.

Wellbeing is not separate from workforce retention, employment or the quality of care people receive. When care workers feel supported, they are better equipped to thrive in their roles. Our work combines wellbeing support with employability training and advocacy, recognising that people need both personal support and practical pathways forward. In 2025, an independent evaluation confirmed that our interventions contributed positively to displaced workers’ ability to secure employment. Caring for care workers isn’t just the right thing to do – it’s essential to building a stronger, more sustainable care system.

2. Belonging can be a lifeline – not just a nice-to-have.

When care workers face burnout, isolation or the sudden loss of their job, practical advice alone may not be enough. They also need people who understand what they’re going through. Through peer support, wellbeing sessions and community-building, we help care workers reconnect with themselves and one another. In our 2025 report, three care workers told us they believed they would not be here today without Tresacare’s support. It’s a powerful reminder that connection can mean far more than we realise.
